Title: Of the dissection of the deeper parts of the neck
Description: A dissection to show the internal structure of the neck under the jaw. The image shows the right side of the face and neck of a body, with the head tilted back and to the side to show the throat. Some of the muscles and tissues are held with thread to show them more clearly, and a pin is used to hold one of the glands in a different position. The muscles, nerves, arteries, veins and salivary glands are shown and labelled. These include the carotid artery (G), the jugular vein (H), the sub-maxillary gland (submandibular gland, X), and the parotid gland (Y. Both of these are salivary glands). The text gives a description of how to prepare and perform the dissection, what can be learned from it, and the appearance and location of the parts of the neck. The volume deals with the anatomy of the rest of the body and its observation through dissection, and includes a number of other illustrations and descriptions.
