Title: Of opening the heart to demonstrate its internal structure
Description: Five images of the heart. The top image (figure 1) shows the heart in position in the human body. The ribs have been cut away at the front of the chest to show the heart, lungs and major blood vessels. Beneath this are four images of the heart at different stages of dissection. Labelled in figure 1 are the chambers of the heart and the blood vessels connected to it, including the right ventricle (A), right atrium (e), aorta (b), superior vena cava (c), and inferior vena cava (i). The volume deals with the anatomy of the human body, its observation through dissection, and signs of disease. It includes detailed instructions of how to prepare and perform the dissections, a number of illustrations taken from dissections, and detailed descriptions of the parts of the body and their appearance.
